The Burkholder Family

Filed under: family — Char @ 3:17 am

Family. There is something about a family….a strong, solid family that feels so right. This mother put it into words perfectly…better than a warm sweatshirt on a brisk autumn morning. It feels good. It feels good to observe.

I mentioned coffee in an earlier post. Lynn  roasts and offers delectable coffee and I will witness, it is so worth the extra effort to get the real thing! I am loving my samples he shared with me. Try and you will see, I promise!

Speaking of families, I know many are waiting on the family day details. It’s coming, hoping to get details out next week.

I am going to let the sweet mother introduce her family. I believe she can tell you about them much better than me….

Burkholder’s and spending time together…We love sitting around at night drinking tea, talking over life. We love music and all of us are moved and affected by tight, smooth, sweet tunes. Laughing around the table at stupidity just makes life seem like it can’t get any better. We are an individualistic bunch and opinions are what we revel in. We offer them freely. We talk about authenticity a lot, it motivates us. What unites us is our love for each other that transcends our differences. Wrapping our arms around each other and a good snuggle is better than a warm sweatshirt on a brisk autumn morning.

Robyn, our oldest, is marrying her love. Everything that will be seen at the wedding has a touch of her hand and her creative mind, from the handmade wedding programs to luminaries on the reception table, it is all her. She will make a fine English high school teacher after one more year at West Chester University. Watch out students, sit tall because she’ll take no flack. She’s had practice mothering five siblings.

Chris, our oldest son, just loves meeting people and discovering their life. Music drives him and keeps him up at night. He is driven to jump off ramps, to do flips, to run up walls. He tells us it is what he has to do! Kutztown University’s jazz music department will benefit from the likes of Christopher Burkholder.

Kathryn lives in her own category, just hers. She’s quiet but she’s not. She loves honesty, her friends, running, doing. Philosophizing is what she does best and getting her deep thoughts is an honor.

Geoff is the guy who knows everyone and knows where everything is in the house because he can’t keep his hands off of anything! He wakes up every morning with a need for an agenda.

Nicole wakes up with an amazing amount of patience, she’s willing to wait, just wait. She loves coloring, talking to her small scope of friends, and being a silent observer, just taking it all in. She is a beautiful young girl.

Jesse, like the others, is a gift to our family. He is a packed little boy. He grabs his guitar or sits at the piano and plays his own songs that are the same every time. He runs outside and hops on his bike and zips around. His energy mounts. As Lynn and I move into old age, this is our little man who will be the fountain of our youth for us.

Meet the Burkholder family…

Lynn told me his family fits an urban location. So he choose good ‘ol Lancaster city!

It was clear this family loved Jesse!

A close up of pretty Kathryn.

This shot was their idea and it seem to fit them. Victory it is!

I can’t help it…big, huge, and old doors just make me happy.

And one last super-duper close up of Jesse that Tawanda caught!

Thanks for giving me a window into your family, guys….it was a privilege!

Gallery Wrap

Filed under: Just Because — Char @ 3:40 am

So what exactly are gallery wraps?!! I know I certainly did not know until I made a point of finding out.

Gallery wraps are an option for your images along with prints. But most folks are not aware of what these are….so lots of emails come asking, “What are gallery wraps?”.

Gallery wraps are printed on fine art canvas. The canvas is wrapped around a wooden frame. Gallery wraps arrive complete and ready to hang on the wall the moment they are received. Sleek and modern and so very easy as no frame shopping required!

Olivia’s mother ordered this lovely gallery wrap with a collage from the kiddo day.

Olivia’s mother…this will be on your doorstep in  few days!

I am looking forward to a few days away from computer world. Super weekend to you!

Hey, most senior guys are not thrilled to be in front of the camera! No problem, Tristan took it completely in stride.

Easy grin, quick to laugh, and a passion for life.

He might have rather been riding his cycle, but he was a good sport for the camera.

I completely enjoyed working with him!

Meet Tristan…

All my boys…

Filed under: Just Because, family — Char @ 6:43 pm

I met Jodi from Gehman Photography through email and internet. Rodney and Jodi are husband and wife photographers based in Iowa. I love following their excellent work!  Because they were coming in the area for a family vacation, Jodi asked if we would consider meeting them at the beach and trading family sessions. I was all like honored and nervous. Yikes, what if I totally screwed up their photos?!! But no worries, they were as nice as good be. It was a pleasure meeting them in person. And not only that, I walked away so blessed as they were so willing to share their knowledge and expertise with me. Stop by and say “hello” here.

Family. My family. Ever feel like your heart is going to burst ’cause you just remembered how much you love somebody?!!

These are my boys and they make my world complete.

Here is a few photos they caught of my family…

Jeepers, this feels weird posting photos of myself! Now I understand what it feels like to be on this side of the camera. Not a piece of cake!

This old bike was parked on the dock. The old man was very skeptical, but allowed us to use it for a dollar. This is how you will find Adler much of the time!

Riley and Adler made fast friends with Rodney and Jodi’s son, Jackson.

Okay, so you have met Shannon before.

She is one of my senior reps….the one with a million dollar smile. And an array of great outfits. And an animated laugh.

I believe the camera was smiling….so easy is she to photograph!

Shannon, thanks for allowing me to work with you. You rock! Seems to me your future is bright!

Shannon, folks…

It reads…

“Each morning in kitchens around the world the ritual is repeated, sometimes long before the sun is up, but always with anticipation.

With it’s rich tradition, powerful aroma and smooth flavor, the steaming cup of morning coffee allows for a breif moment of stillnessn and reflection as the new day begins.

Those who are fortunate enough to start their day with fresh roasted Twin Valley Coffee share a unique perspective. Average coffee will no longer be acceptable.”

I smiled as I read this. I do love and yes, even anticipate my morning coffee. Always freshly ground with a splash of half and half and a sprinkle of sugar.

So when the folks from last evening’s session came bearing coffee from their coffee business, I was happy. Not ordinary coffee, mind you. No this is only the finest beans and freshly roasted as within the last 24 hours. It’s the very best, I am told.

Will average coffee no longer be acceptable? We will see. But you can be certain, I will be anticipating my morning coffee.

And his smile is always anticipated in the mornings. Not a super sharp photo, but he’s mine and I like his smile.

It is true, I love working with and meeting new people. Each time I walk away feeling like I learned something. Like my tiny world  just got a new window and I understand a little more about people. What makes us smile and what makes us sad. Why we think the way we do and do what we do. Really, what makes us be who we are.  That my world is not so big after all. I consider myself blessed to have the opportunity to see beyond what I consider  “normal”. My prayer is that it will mold me into who I was created to be.

And I always love seniors!

Meet the lovely Bethany…

She has a bounce to her step and an easy smile.

She plays the drums and rocks the piano.

I am certain she will go far. Let me share a few…

Abigail & Randy

Filed under: Wedding — Char @ 9:09 am

I loved this girl…really loved her! Spontaneous and so full of bubbling life. When she laughs it is with eyes squinted and  head thrown back kinda laugh. He looked at her with a grin of adoration….treating her with utmost kindness and gentleness. They seemed to view life with a contentment…realizing that the simple pleasures are often the best.

So happy, so happy to be together. Ever see comics that have rainbows of hearts spewing from two people in love? I believe Randy and Abigail had that in real life.

A casual Friday evening wedding was perfect. The flowers were fragrant with a full mix of mint tea, hydrangeas, daisies, and perennials all tied up neatly with a green ribbon….every one gathered from the mother of the bride’s gardens.  I met Randy and Abigail on Randy’s home farm. Bright pink shoes were borrowed  and an antique bike was brought to the farm for pictures.  Family wandered around, laughing and joking. Lively cousins ran and played together. Later that evening, Grandpa married Randy and Abigail with gruff affection.

Abigail and Randy, thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your day. I wish you only the best….you deserve the absolute finest life has to offer!

See their slide show here!

Vintage jewelry borrowed from a family member…

Because Abigail is a photographer herself, she was up for anything and scheduled plenty of time for photos! Loved this.

Buddies. Chums. Sidekicks. Soulmates. Cronies. Pals. Comrades.

Oh, it’s true! I love these guys more than warm summer nights. More than blueberry pancakes…totally loving these right now. And more than McDonalds free mocha Mondays. Free to good to be true? Apparently not always! Now I am looking for reasons to drive through town Monday mornings.

‘Cause friends, real friends are a treasure. They can’t be drummed up or thought up or dreamed up. They just kinda happen. And when they do, you know it is divine.

So when the suggestion came up to combine dessert and a spontaneous romp in the grass behind their house…it was a win win.

Here’s to friends…

Meet Ann and Clint.

Stop here to see their slide show.

Mischievous I am told. But so adorable. This is their Cheney.
